Magnetics Power Ratings
Since there has been some confusion as to the Power Rating of Magnetics Systems in the industry and the scientific theatre, the following industry standards are hereby defined:
Gauss: The lines of flux density emitting from a cm² of the surface of one pole of a magnet.
BrCoersive: The amount of force between both poles of a magnet to de-energize the magnetic gradient to) (zero) power and/or in the inverse – the amount of power to fully energize the magnetic material to Full Magnetic (saturation) Power.
Oerstedt: The amount of distance the lines of force extend from the surface of the poles.
Depending upon the density and magnetic saturation susceptibility property of the magnetic material, the BrCoersive value is adjusted to drive the proper amount of energy into the magnetic material to attain the magnetic gradient of the magnet. The Industry has adopted a magnetic gradient value of Gauss X Oerstedt = (number) GOe which is referred generally as an x (number) energy product unit.
All Magnetics Systems are designed with the proper Energy Product as the Magnetic Driver in whatever multiples are required to fit pipe size and fluid flow.
