    Energy Management and Filtration for the Pulp & Paper Industry

    NEW HOPE FOR PULP & PAPER WATER FILTRATION

    The focus of Avoca-Tec of Toronto and Montreal on the Pulp and Paper Industry has resulted in excellent results in several areas, which have proven to be problems for years.

    The use of the filters on river or canal water intake has saved thousands of dollars for some manufacturers who have been unable to draw from these sources effectively to use expensive municipal water for part of their supply.

    The filter is also excellent on white water systems and spray nozzle protection.

    The patented filter uses stainless steel coils, which are sized for your needs from 25m to 400m with various flow rates, which are clearly indicated in the literature. An interesting feature of the system is that the pod type design allows for a 98% uninterrupted flow during the backwash cycle. The time of the backwash is approximately 2 - 3 seconds per pod greatly reducing the loss of fluid.

    Typically a sand filter system uses 3 times the flow rate in the backwash cycle, whereas this system was dramatically less.

    Magnetic Water Treatment and Paper Pulp Mills

    One of the distinct advantages in the use of magnetic water treatment in pulp process is the drop in surface tension. Normally water has a surface tension of approximately 71 dynes per square centimeter, while after being subjected to a magnetic field has a surface tension of 61 dynes per square centimeter. This is quite important when it comes to the pulping of cellulosic material.

    To obtain the greatest surface tension reduction, recirculation of the water through a mono-pole magnetic field is advisable. With the reduction in surface tension, it may be possible to increase the linear feed rate through the de-watering presses.

    In terms of waste or reject water treatment, municipal waste water when treated with a properly focused magnetic field will increase flocculation at a rate substantially faster than normal. What took hours to achieve by normal processing, now takes only minutes. Ferritic material can be removed from the process via further magnetic treatment.

    Throughout the paper mill itself there is ancillary hydronic equipment that can take advantage of the benefits of magnetic treatment: boilers, heat exchangers, chillers and cooling towers.

    While magnetic treatment is primarily used to de-scale such equipment, there is also the benefit of having control over the fluctuations in pH, in the pH range from 6 to 8.

    The Magnetizer applied to the Diesel Engine

    The mono-pole application has increased the flux field (power density) as much as 500 times that of the bi-polar technology. Consequently, the reactivity of the atom and related molecules are enhanced. In octane (C8H18) the carbon content of the molecule is 84.2% while the hydrogen content is 15.8%. When combusted the carbon portion of the molecule will generate 12,244 BTU (per pound of carbon). On the other hand, the hydrogen which comprises only 15.8% of the molecular weight will generate an amazing 9,861 BTU of heat per pound of hydrogen.

    Thus we can see the importance of hydrogen in generating heat when a hydrocarbon molecule is burned. By altering the spin properties of the electron, we can enhance the reactivity of the fuel and related combustion process.

    In conclusion, due to the breakthrough in power that the Magnetizer technology has accomplished over and above all previous applied magnetic fluid treatment methodology, a strong enough flux field was developed to substantially change the hydrocarbon molecule from its para state to the higher energized ortho state. This higher energized spin state shows a higher electrical potential (reactivity) which attracts additional oxygen.

    Combustion engineering teaches that additional oxygenation increases combustion efficiency, (i.e. turbo chargers, chemical oxidizing agents put into gasoline by gasoline companies, etc.), which is fuel savings, the Magnetizer works simply by increasing the fuel's ability to further oxidize.

    The Magnetizer Fuel Energizer

    The purpose of the "Magnetizer" Fuel Energizer, stated in simplistic terms, is to make the burning of fuel more efficient, thereby creating a condition of more even burning and thus better mileage.

    The Magnetizer works on:

    • Gasoline powered automobiles and trucks
    • Propane powered vehicles
    • Diesel Engines
    • Home fuel oil or natural gas powered heaters

    In short, it works on any vehicle or device using liquid or gaseous fuel.

    How it works:

    Today's hydrocarbon fuels leave a natural deposit of carbon residue that clogs carburetors, fuel injectors, leading to reduced efficiency and waster fuel.

    Pinging, stalling, loss of horsepower and greatly decreased gas mileage on cars are very noticeable. The same is true of home heating units where improper combustion wastes fuel (or gas) and costs money on poor efficiency and repairs due to carbon build-up.

    The Magnetizer creates an electron flow called the "magnetic effect" which increases the oxygenation between hydrocarbon fuel and oxygen prior to ignition. This effect is caused by the changed re-alignment of the molecules (polarization) resulting in a more complete mixture of fuel and oxygen.

    Growth of Micro-organisms

    The presence and growth of micro-organisms in heat transfer/cooling systems causes plugged water passages and severe deterioration of metal surfaces by under-deposit corrosion.

    Deposition of Ferrous Oxides

    Iron deposition and corrosion is caused by the metabolism of "iron bacteria", which can remove water soluble ferrous salts and deposit them as insoluble ferric oxides.

    These oxides tend to grow rapidly and can reach sizes large enough to restrict water flow.

    Corrosion caused by Sulfate Reducing Bacteria

    Another group of bacteria produce acids and waste which attack metal surfaces directly. These organisms can convert water-soluble sulphur compounds into hydrogen sulfide. One of the most common sulfate-reducing bacteria is desulfovibria. This bacterium uses organic nutrients from the decomposition of other bacteria or algae as food. This process often takes place under existing biofilm or scale deposits.

    The corrosive action of desulfovibrio can produce condenser tube penetration in as little as six weeks.

    Attack on copper and steel by acids from Nitrifying Bacteria

    A third group of corrosive bacteria common to cooling towers are known as nitrifying bacteria. These bacteria react with dissolved ammonia to produce nitric acid. This acid lowers pH and causes localized attack on both copper and steel.

    Pitting caused by Oxygen Releasing Algae

    Finally, algae, a major source of trouble in cooling water systems, adhering to metal surfaces and accelerating pitting by the release of oxygen during the metabolic process. Large algae growths also impede the effectiveness of biocidal treatments by absorbing them.

    This resistance to chemical treatment makes it necessary to rotate the chemical treatment to maintain its effectiveness.
